Solid Rock Church of Baltimore
Solid Rock Church of Baltimore - Our Pilgrim’s Journey In the Fall of 1985, a group of Christian believers set sail from the Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church. They were on a mission to find new land to serve and worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Under the leadership of Deacon James Williams and Bishop F.D.R. Williams, the followers set port at the Poe Home Auditorium and later worshipped at the St. Mark Church on Liberty Heights Avenue and Garrison Boulevard. There, the church was named Williams’ Tabernacle United Freewill Baptist Church. On July 12, 1987, through prayers, pledges and much faith, the pilgrims marched aboard another vessel and set anchor at 7 East North Avenue. Surviving waves of adversity, the church was renamed the Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church. Many labored to fix up the ship for the Glory of God, and the leaders and members worked long and hard to transform the former movie theater into a sanctuary for worship. God blessed the efforts of Solid Rock. During the next eight years, Rev. Tabron preached the Word and advised the Officers and Members. On July 9, 1995, a mortgage burning service was held. Solid Rock had completed a major mission. Rev. Tabron relinquished his duties as interim pastor to care for his wife during her illness. Seeing the need for the ship to chart a new course, Deacon Earnest Davis sought out on a mission from God to find a new leader for the church. He found a young, eager soldier in the Lord’s Army, who was rooted in the Word with a vision for Solid Rock. Through an official vote, the congregation elected Rev. Jeffrey D. Sanders, Sr. from Shiloh Baptist Church in Edgemere as the new Pastor-elect. And on March 2, 1997, Rev. Sanders was installed as the first official Pastor of the Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church. After two years and under Pastor Sanders’ guidance, the church began a makeover and a newly renovated sanctuary was dedicated on March 5, 2000. Among his many accomplishments, Pastor Sanders embarked on several ministries including; Men and Women’s Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Discipleship Classes, The Men of Valor Ministry, a Hospitality and Nurse’s Ministry, a Dance and Intercessory Prayer Ministry, and a Praise and Worship Ministry. He also emphasized going beyond the walls of the church to serve the homeless, the needy, and those in bondage to fulfill the Great Commission through an Outreach Ministry. On Sunday, November 22, 2015, after many other accomplishments and after eighteen years of dedicated service, Rev. Sanders resigned as Pastor of the Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church. Not willing to let the ship sink, through patience and faith, the members of Solid Rock reached out to Bishop James L. Carter, Senior Pastor of Ark Church, for guidance. Without hesitation, Bishop Carter met with the members of Solid Rock and agreed to do whatever he could to assist in keeping the ship afloat. The members of Solid Rock unanimously voted Bishop Carter as Pastor-elect and later as Senior Pastor of the church. For eight years, Bishop Carter preached the Word and lead the Solid Rock Church in many accomplishments, including the total renovation of the front of the building, restroom renovations, other major repairs, the name change to Solid Rock Church of Baltimore, and in the ordination of Elder Jacqueline Sapp and Deacon Elma Jones. Bishop Carter enlisted assistance from another young, eager soldier in the Lord’s Army, by the name of Elder Rashad Singletary. Elder Singletary served as Associate Pastor at Solid Rock for two years until God led him to an assignment to pastor the Mount Olive Church in Turner Station, Maryland. Bishop Carter once again began seeking assistance in pastoring Solid Rock. The church started having Sunday worship services in October, 2022 after being shut down for almost two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Another young, eager soldier named Pastor Dale D. Dennis II was enlisted by Bishop Carter. Pastor Dale preached the first sermon after the COVID-19 shutdown at Solid Rock and has been preaching there ever since. He has served faithfully and has given his time and God-given talents to preach and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastor Dale holds regular, weekly Bible study. His creativity allowed him to institute “Study on the Sidewalk,” a Bible study on the sidewalk in front of the church when weather permits, in an effort to go beyond the walls of the church, to reach others and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He leads the Wednesday Mid-Week Services at Ark Church. He also instituted the daily 6:30 am daily prayer call for Solid Rock. On November 3, 2022, Bishop Carter announced his intended resignation effective December 31, 2022. The members of Solid Rock ecstatically elected Pastor Dale D. Dennis II, as the new Senior Pastor of the Solid Rock Church of Baltimore, and the ship once again, has set sail on a new course. Overseer Dennis was officially installed as Senior Pastor on Sunday, January 15, 2023. To God be the Glory!!!
